The world after RAPTURE is much different than it used to be. Now, the majority of the planet is covered in war-torn terrain and landscape. Cities reduced to rubble and ruins, nature reduced to ash, and the ground littered with craters and ditches.
This is the new normal for the inhabitants of Earth. While the wasteland isn’t friendly in any definition, it is almost a free world. Wastelanders are sure to find small towns and villages amongst the ruins, but also bandits. These towns and villages occasionally come face to face with RAPTURE Patrols. While usually small, from one to four soldiers, larger towns are generally capable of holding them off. Smaller towns that can’t defend themselves are razed and left to rot.
To the AI, these villages and towns are not problematic, and would be waste of resources to take on. To humans however, these towns are a much-needed relief, especially if they have before lived under RAPTURE’s control.
Outside the city of Shiloh, the Wastelanders use various forms of currency, but the most notable and universal form of currency is the US Dollar. Traders moving around the wastes of California usually keep USD notes on themselves to buy and sell goods at other towns.
Local currencies can be found too, such as a war-torn zone swarming with RAPTURE Expansion Corps. In this example, people would use bullets as the common currency, seen as they are more valuable and well used than the US Dollar.
If you don't have any form of currency on you, maybe traders will resort to bartering. This isnt accepted everywhere, but some are more willing then others.
